The Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe. (FTHG) is located within the city of Gombe, the capital of Gombe State. It is one of the 36 States of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. It is located between latitude 10º & 11º N within the Sahel Savannah belt. It has a population of about 2.1 million people and an area of 18, 000 square km. The temperature averages 30ºC with an annual rainfall of 1200mm. The predominant occupations of its people are agriculture and livestock rearing.
This tertiary health institution has a 400-bed capacity and was established in 1996 by the Federal Government. There are Six [6] main wards in the hospital including the amenity ward.The various clinical departments run specialist and sub-specialist clinics from Monday to Friday. Emergencies are attended to daily on a 24hour basis through the Accident & Emergency Unit [A & E]. Overall outpatient attendance is about 1750 patients per week.
